Our Holiday Bucket List-
The holiday season is now in full swing and there are so many seasonal activities happening everyday. Check out these fun and festive activities at the top of our holiday bucket list that you can do with your friends and family during the winter months.
Tree Lighting
Attend a Tree Lighting Ceremony
Check your local event listings to see where and when Christmas tree lightings are being held in your area. Usually small towns host a Christmas tree lighting ceremony on a Friday evening, located at the town center, a busy main street where there’s lot of shops and restaurants. Enjoy hot chocolate while you “ooh and ahh” at the first sight of the newly lit tree!
Festive Shows
See a Festive Traveling Show or Ballet
It’s the perfect time to see a traveling holiday show at your local theatre or arena. Check the events near you for festive plays, concerts, ballets, and more. Some of our favorites include: The Nutcracker Ballet and the Trans Siberian Orchestra!
Photos with Santa
Get your Picture taken with Santa Claus
As busy as the big man is, he always makes time to visit this time of year! You can almost always find Santa at your local mall for pictures. If you want to avoid the mall during this busy season, be on the lookout for other Santa sightings including: firetruck drive-bys, “Breakfast/Brunch with Santa” events at local restaurants and banquet halls, parades, and more.
Bake & decorate
Try your hand at delicious holiday recipes
Spend an afternoon with the kids baking and decorating all of the holiday classics! Enjoy sugar cookies, gingerbread men, gingerbread houses, pie, fruitcake and more.
Go Iceskating
Hit your Local Ice Skating Rink
December is the perfect time to go ice skating with the family. Outdoor rinks are starting to open and the temperatures haven’t dropped low enough that it’s uncomfortable outside, but it’s still cold enough to get the full experience. Check your local rink to see their hours of operation.
See the lights
Pause and View Holiday Decorations
There’s no doubt that winter is one of the prettiest times of the year, and this is in part, due to the decorative lights all around. Take a stroll down the backroads to admire your neighbor’s lit up houses, or visit a light spectacle in your area.
Movie Night In
Cuddle up on the Couch for Holiday Movies
Stay warm and cozy in the comfort of your own home for a movie night in! There’s always a great holiday movie on the Hallmark channel, 25 days of Christmas movies and specials on Freeform, and tons of great movies on Netflix, Disney + and other subscriptions. Or you could always bring out the old holiday DVD’s and enjoy your hot chocolate by the fire while you view the classics.
Movie Night Out
Seasonal Movies and Snacks
December is actually one of the most popular times for hit movies to be released in theatres. Hit your local cinema for a night of popcorn, soda, and a new movie! We recommend Frozen 2, in theatres now!
